The Outreach Committee raises awareness in the congregation about social issues and responds to needs in the local and global community.

Outreach activities

If you would like more information about Outreach activities, please contact Percy Zalasky at (780) 458-1481 or watch for updates in the Grapevine, our church newsletter.

  • Once a year, members of the Outreach Committee plan and deliver a church service, focusing on issues such as: racism, the Palestinian/Israeli situation, the global food crisis, the environment.

  • Twice a year, the Outreach Committee, with the generous support of the congregation, organizes food and volunteers to go to the Bissell Center. We take part in the service there and then help serve lunch to the inner city community.

  • Celebrated on a Sunday in Advent, this is an opportunity to help support people in need in St. Albert and Edmonton, especially those who are homeless. The congregation is given a suggested list of items to donate, and the collected items are shared among local agencies such as the St. Albert Food Bank and Community Village, The Bissell Center, and The Mustard Seed.

  • This annual initiative is coordinated by the Edmonton and District Council of Churches to help raise funds for housing projects relating to homeless or those at risk in the Edmonton Capital Region. A different project is designated each year. At St. Albert United we host a Cider and Cookies Event with the proceeds from a free will offering going to this program.

  • A shopping cart is kept inside our front doors to encourage the ongoing support of the food bank.

  • When the United Church of Canada has an appeal for help in areas of crisis, we will use whatever resources we have available to respond.Item description

  • Our Outreach Committee supplies the food for and takes part in the Campus Ministry at the University of Alberta twice each year.Item description

  • An attempt is made to host and attend events that are designed to facilitate understanding among people of different faiths and cultures. One example of this is The Common Word Dialogue that holds a yearly workshop where people of different faiths can take part in small group discussions.

  • The Outreach Committee gathers used books during the year and organizes them for sale at our November Christmas Market. The proceeds from this sale support initiatives throughout the year.

  • The St. Albert United Church supports the local church and the Mission and Service Fund. If you would like to find out more about where Mission and Service Fund contributions go, visit this website.
