Called to Serve: Message for Fifth Sunday after Epiphany 2012

The healing by Jesus of Simon's mother-in-law and her immeditately getting up to serve reminds us that we are raised up like her not for ourselves but to reach out in care. Paul's approach to proclaiming the gospel with respect to their own culture and perspective is another way of reaching out in service. We are reminded that Jesus came for the world and not just an in-group and so as his followers we need to stop expecting people t come to the gospel but rahter to bring the gospel to people.
