Patient Dreamer: Message for Fifth Sunday after Pentecost 2011For some reason being a dreamer is seen to be a negative thing today despite that the most important ideas have come from the musings of dreamers. In the bible dreams carry weight and the story of Jacob;s dream is no exception. God comes to him promising that God will continue the covenant with him as God had done with Isaac and before him with Abraham. It's a surprise given that Jacob was not a stellar person having tricked his older brother out of his birthright. The story, along with Jesus' parable about the weeds growing with the wheat reminds us that it's important to take the long view on things. God's reign is being born - we just need to be patient about it. Read more at sermon.110717.pdf or listen sermon 110717.mp3 . To comment, click on this week's message title. |
