The Outreach Committee is attempting to raise awareness in the congregation about social issues. We try to respond to needs in the local as well as the global community.

 

Past Events.

December 6, 2009 - White Gift Sunday

90 Gift Bags delivered to Mustard Seed

90 Gift Bags delivered to Bissell Centre

 

December 13, 2009 - Fund raiser for No Room at the Inn

Served Hot Apple Cider and homemade cookies after service.

Donations of almost $700.00 were topped up by the Outreach Committee to a total of $1000.00 for the Harry Holt Centre.  This is  new modestly-sized, affordable units for homelss singles and couples in Edmonton Inner City.

 

March 14, 2010- Outreach service on Refugees

A group from the Karen Community (Christian Refugees from Burma) attended and provided us with two songs

Guest Speaker Dr. Alice Khin gave a very informative talk on the situation in Burma and the refugee camps along the Thailand border.

...About the forgotten women of India?

Widows, divorced and separated women in India are cast out of their families and communities. Abandoned and deserted, these women are often exploited by society and beyond the reach of public welfare.

Please join us on July 27 to hear how the Association for Strong Women Alone (ASWA) is empowering these forgotten women through education and training.

The event includes a meal of rice, dal, roti and chai, traditional to rural India; followed by a presentation by Dr. Ginny Shrivastava the co-founder of ASWA.

Canadian-born Ginny has lived and worked in India for over 40 years. She and her team have mobilized low-income separated women and widows to build their leadership capabilities.

Ginny’s efforts to get rights and resources for widows and single women in India were recognized by a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

Donations of $20 and over will be issued a charitable tax receipt.

Please make cheques payable to St. Albert United Church.

100% of donations will be directed to ASWA.
